108 Animals on Kelapa Islands Sterilized from Rabies Virus

Residents appreciate the rabies vaccination and sterilization services targeting 108 rabies-transmitting animals in Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands.

As stated by one of the residents from RT 01/03, Pulau Kelapa Urban Village, Sabudin (49). He appreciated the Seribu Islands Maritime, Agriculture and Food Securit Sub-agency (KPKP), which routinely holds sterilization and rabies vaccination in his village every year.

"Very happy, this service is free and easily accessible. It is very helpful," he expressed, Monday (5/26).

By doing so, the service made the animals on Kelapa Island healthier and free from rabies.

"This is very helpful in controlling the cat population here," he admitted.

The rabies vaccination and sterilization services received appreciation from Seribu Islands Regency Council Member, Sahdan.

"I hope this can control the cat population and maintain Jakarta's status as a rabies-free city," he hoped.

Seribu Islands Maritime and Fisheries Section Head, Gama Eka Anantha explained, the sterilization conducted today uses the Trap Neuter Return (TNR) method.

"The cats are caught, sterilized, and then returned to their original place. On Kelapa Island, we vaccinated and sterilized 108 cats, consisting of 41 males and 67 females," he explained.

He added this is an annual routine program in collaboration with the Let's Adopt Indonesia community involving six doctors and assistants.

"This action will keep being promoted on every inhabited island to control the cat population and prevent rabies cases in Jakarta," he said.
